2026/01/12 USD/JPY Trade Strategy

Today's USD/JPY call: Buy.
The daily chart is in the process of breaking above its high, but since this is a key level on the weekly chart, price may keep trading near the highs for a while longer.
The 1-hour chart is in a range, so for now it’s a matter of either waiting for the range low to buy, or buying after a break to the upside.
Review

It played out as Scenario B.
Price fell back without breaking above Line A, so I judged that the range was continuing.
I went long from circle ①, a small turning up (making higher lows) at the range low.
After that, price rose and formed waves, so I moved the stop-loss level to breakeven and left the trade alone.
If you had set a limit order near the range high, it would have taken profit around dawn. 34pips
If you’re watching the chart the whole time, you’ll probably want to take profit around 2 am JST (17:00 UTC the previous day).
That’s fine too.
If you couldn’t get in at circle ①, going long from circle ②, the pullback after the rise, also works.
